A Holiday Present To Self

A Present for Yourself

How much can you give of yourself before you realize that it is time to take care of you too?  I challenge you this holiday season to give yourself the gift of good health.  There are so many ways you can do this.

  • Buy yourself a gym membership.
  • Buy a personal planner (electronic or not) where you schedule in exercise as often as feasibly possible.
  • Plan your weekly meals in your planner too!
  • Schedule in time for yourself.
  • Learn to say “NO” to others sometimes because you have a previous commitment (a date with yourself to exercise or cook a healthy meal.)
  • Make a bottle filled with little self motivating notes to you and pull a note out each day.
  • Wrap these gifts up and put them under your tree (if you are Catholic) as a concrete reminder that you should be the priority.

A New Year, A New You

After the holidays comes a brand new start.  I will join you all in this adventure.  I am cleaning out too.  I am cleaning out my house, cleaning out my clothes, cleaning out any negative thoughts; cleaning out people who are not a positive influence in my life and getting back on track with my eating and exercise.  I want to be healthy and happy too.  I struggle like everyone else.  My foot injury has set me on a negative path in so many ways.  I am finally got the OK to start running again.  It is time we all move in the right direction to enable ourselves to feel great!

I am looking forward to this new start.  I am finally healthy enough to get back on track and I hope you are physically able too.  If not, do whatever you can do.  Let’s all start slow and work ourselves up to being fit and strong both physically and emotionally.  They go hand in hand.  When you are physically fit it is unbelievable how emotionally strong you can feel.  There is no better way to build your self confidence than to have enough respect for yourself to feed your body with good food and become physically active.  Whether you are an avid exerciser or “farm hearty” as my friend calls herself, you are doing your body good.  Farm hearty means to stay active by cleaning, raking, playing with the kids and doing chores (and lots of them) around the house for activity.  Clean out those closets!!!  That works too!

Take advantage of the many positive people and support you can get from our office and fellow patients.  Remember to surround yourself with people who have the same goals in life.  Don’t forget to give yourself a present as noted above.

I have a new back on track nutrition class starting January 9th- February 13 th from 7-8pm.  We will cover getting back on track, meal planning, emotional eating, supermarket shopping (at a supermarket), label reading, cooking and dining out together at a restaurant.  The cost for the class is $60.00 payable to Surgical Weight Loss Specialists.  The fee covers the cost of going out to the restaurant.  To register, please call our office at 508-668-4400.  Thank you and Happy Holidays!  Jane
