"If you loved me..."

By Adam Glasgow - 2/1/2012

You would come in for follow-up!

This Valentine's Day don't send me chocolate just come in for a visit. Tell your loved ones that there are far more productive and supportive ways to express their love than through a gift of sweets. If some how they don't get the message and you find yourself the recipient of a high fructose treat on the holiday, be gracious and then get rid of it as fast as you can. There is no need get off track or jeopardize your hard won gains (really losses) for a Hallmark Holiday. Do remind yourself that you are deserving of love, we all are, and don't be too hard on yourself. We are now 1 month in to the new year. It is a good time to take stock of where we are. Are we keeping up with our resolutions? Are we still on track? If not let's resolve to get moving. January 1st isn't the only time to make change, you can do it anytime.

We have been blessed with an unusually mild winter. I hope I didn't just jinx us. There have been a few cold days but most haven't been too bad. The days are starting to get a little longer as well. If you haven't made activity a routine part of your weight loss/weight maintenance program why not start by walking. It is safe, it is free, and with the right company a lot of fun. If you want to try something with a little more spice, we are offering an introduction to Zumba class next Tuesday night, February 7th from 6-7pm. The class will be taught by Katie Mahoney, a fellow bandster and certified Zumba instructor. The class will be right in the office and will be followed by a Support Group meeting. If you join us, wear sneakers and comfortable and loose clothing. Bring a towel as Instructor Katie makes you sweat. The push for this came from fellow bandsters who have also organized a class in Taunton later in the month. Stay tuned for more details.

Looking for something to do on your lunch break? Jane Sylvestre, RD is bringing her fabulously successful and inspiring "Back on Track" program to the lunch hour and will be teaching the six 1 hour programs right here in the office from noon-1. Call the office for exact dates and to register. Think of it as nutrition for the body and the soul.

"Band on the Run" the inspired offshoot of our 5K family have been conducting monthly activities which have included several walks/hikes, an afternoon of bowling, and soon a "board games" night at the office. They are always looking for more bandsters to participate and for more good programming ideas. Reach out to Laurie, Gail, Rosemarie, or Dorothy for more info and inspiration. The office can give you their contact info.

Question for the day: What does a bandster do when he/she reaches his/her goal?

Answer: Same damn thing he/she did while journeying to his/her goal!

Very important to remember that weight loss and weight maintenance are just 2 sides of the same coin. Getting and staying lighter, happier, and healthier is a journey without end. On the way to goal and even once there- the teachings and preachings are the same: Make good choices, use the band as a tool for portion control, separate your liquids and solids, come for follow-up, and increase your activity. Everyday I continue to be struck by how easy it is to explain weight loss and weight maintenance but also how maddeningly difficult it is to achieve it. I am ever more convinced that happiness and success are rarely achieved in a vacuum. When you get a band, you become part of my family of bandsters and dedicated band supporters. Let us help you. If you have been faithfully coming for follow-up, attending Support Group, and getting exercise-great for you and keep it up. If you haven't yet experienced the uplifting support of the team and the programs we offer then why not give it a try. I look forward to seeing you soon.

Happy February, Happy Valentine's Day, Happy life.

I love you, I support you, I look forward to continuing the journey with you.
