Boston as an Inspiration

Writing a blog this month is difficult to do because my heart is in one place this week and that is Boston. I am writing this blog at work as I hear the tribute to Sean Collier on the TV in the waiting room.  I am sure we have all felt the pain of last Monday’s tragedy.  I can only imagine the horror that took place in the streets of Boston and Watertown.  Of course, the news stations painted a pretty clear picture.  As an avid Boston Marathon runner, I know how amazing Patriot’s day can be in Boston.  How can two people destroy such beauty/excitement and the lives of so many others??  I am still having a very difficult time processing the recent events.

I do realize how lucky we all are.  This tragedy helped me realize that any struggle I may be dealing with is nothing compared to the people in Boston.  This event has certainly put life in perspective for me.  I do treasure all I have and appreciate those around me.  I hope you feel the same way.

Take a good look at your life and appreciate all that you DO have.  Consider all that you have going for you.  Do the best you can to make the most out of life.  Work hard to improve yourself.  Consider the struggle that those who have lost limbs have ahead of them.  You may be facing a challenge, but you can certainly do this with a positive attitude.  The injured in Boston should be a tremendous inspiration for all of you.  Many are looking towards the future and already moving forward.  You still have a life and should do everything you can to preserve it in a healthy way.  Treat your body well as it is a gift that must be treasured.

Another thought I had this week is make sure you are not being pulled down by those around you.  Think about your influences. Are those people pulling you in a negative direction?  Falling towards negative influences is an easy thing to do.  One way you can avoid this is not being around the negative influences whether it is people or food.  You cannot get sucked into a negative lifestyle if it is not around you.  Surround yourself with healthy foods and positive people who live a healthy lifestyle.

I hate to compare the two, but the younger bomber in the attack appeared to be highly influenced by his older brother.  You had to question whether the 19 year old would have done such horrid acts if he had not been influenced by those around him??? Of course, everyone is ultimately responsible for their own actions.

On a final note, I want to leave you with this:   appreciate yourself & your life, take care of yourself and surround yourself with positive influences.  You deserve it!
