Parting--Such Sweet Sorrow

A Heartfelt Farewell
I am writing my last blog with such mixed emotions. I have taken a new position at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton. I am very excited for my new and increased responsibilities; however I will miss my “family” here at Surgical Weight Loss Specialists.
This position that I have held for the past 7 years has been my favorite job throughout my work history. I loved all the people with whom I worked. How many people can say that they truly enjoy the people they work with? I already miss Carol who left our office almost a year ago. I will miss Jayne and Patty from the main office, Julie and Maryanne our nurse practitioners, Dr. Cetlin our psychologist, Jordana in business development and our awesome surgeon simply known by everyone as Adam. They have all been there for me on good days and bad.
I have grown so much over the past 7 years, both professionally and personally. Adam has given me the opportunity and autonomy to spread my wings here and do as I pleased as a dietitian. I have loved creating all the support groups, cooking classes, dining out programs, supermarket tours, bingo nights and running/walking groups over the years. Adam supported any idea I presented him. I remember when I first suggested we create a walking / running group and all do a road race together. Not only did he say OK, but he went to the next level and bought everyone T-shirts, created an awesome name for our group called “Band on The Run” (we only did bands at the time) and paid for everyone’s fee for the race. This is just an example of how far he would go to ensure that his patients succeed and support his staff at the same time!
One of the toughest parts of my job has been not becoming too close with my patients. I feel so many of you have become personal friends. I feel close connections with you because I had spent so much time with you whether you were a frequent flyer at my classes, were part of our walking/ running groups, were a frequent e-mailer or simply made a close connection through our monthly visits. I will miss you all. I will always consider you my patients and if you ever have questions I am happy to help. Feel free to contact me through Adam anytime.
I do know that you are in great hands. Adam is by far the most compassionate, caring and thoughtful surgeon I have ever met. Surgeons are known for their arrogance. I hesitated working with a surgeon because I am such a sensitive person and don’t usually handle that personality very well. Thank God I crossed paths with Adam as our surgeon. He has been there for us as his staff as I know he is there for you as his patients in so many ways. I hope you all realize how lucky you are to have him as the lead in your weight loss journey.
Again, it is so hard to say goodbye, but with time comes change. I wish you all nothing but success and happiness with your new and healthier lives!
