Resolve to be Resolute

My New Idea for Resolutions in 2015

I am just like everyone else when it comes to making and keeping New Year’s resolutions.  Last year my resolution was to be more thoughtful and remember and acknowledge in a special way all the people in my life.  I am terrible at this.  I vowed I would change.  I even wrote birthdays and anniversaries…on my electronic calendar.  Unfortunately, a number of birthdays still came and went without being acknowledged.  Just like those who had failed at dieting and their exercise goals, I thought I was the worst!

New Plan!!!  This year my resolution is going to be “make it a fun year and do lots with the family.”  Instead of a general goal, I have decided I will make a check off list with all the things I want to do.  My list includes such things as going white water rafting, zip lining in New Hampshire, skiing in VT, NH, MA and ME, and running a marathon in Atlanta, GA…  I even included little things like paintball with Adam (my son) and playing soccer with Sara (my daughter.)

I told this to my husband and he said that we have to plan this together so he can add some things that will keep us safe!  HA!  I guess that is why opposites attract.  I keep his life filled with craziness and he keeps me alive!

Anyway, I believe that if I have things to check off rather than a general resolution, I will be more successful and can chip away at my goals as the year goes on.  Either this will work  very well or I am going to have a super busy December trying to get everything done!!!!

I think this plan can be translated to any resolution.  Many of you will have getting back on track with your weight loss, eating well, or exercising as your goal.  How about instead, you write a list and include such things as go one week without coffee with cream, try a zumba class, make a new healthy recipe, go to a support group, run or walk a 5K. These are just a few suggestions.  Make a long list of little things.  Make your own list and tailor it to yourself.

Think of this list as something fun you can plug away at as the year goes on.  Just don’t procrastinate too much.  Plan to check something off your list every month and to have fun doing it.

Let me know how this works for you by e-mailing me at janesylvestre@masweightloss.com.  Next year I will let you know how successful I was as well.  Have a wonderful New Year and get those lists started!
