Something old and something new...

Last night Surgical Weight Loss Specialists hosted their first "Veteran Bandster Support Group" for people who have had their Lap-Band 1 year or longer. Depending who you ask and who you believe there were anywhere from 35 to 55 people in attendance. Suffice to say there were so many people there that it was hard to get an accurate count.

We divided in to smaller groups to facilitate discussion and to focus on issues of specific interest to these smaller groups. Those bandsters who felt stuck at a weight loss plateau enjoyed a spirited discussion, facilitated by Jane Sylvestre, while huddled in the multi-purpose section of the office.

About 8 bandsters gathered to discuss what it means to reach goal and strategy to stay at goal. They gathered in the reception area and from the amount of noise and laughter, I am guessing that they discussed more than weight loss.

A smaller group gathered in the conference room to chat about support networks and how those close to us both help us and at times disappoint us. It is a tough subject to deal with but so much easier when you know you are not alone.

The kitchen was home to a spirited group who were busy talking about the challenges of re-operation and specifically transitioning from an older smaller band to a newer larger band. It is definitely a challenge but not insurmountable. I was encouraged when a group member emailed to say that he is now inspired to do what needs to be done.

At the end of the hour the whole group reconvened to review the night and plan for the future. We all agreed that it was a productive, inspiring, and supportive evening. We will definitely be doing it again. Keep an eye on your email for an announcement and schedule.

In the short term tonight is GAME NIGHT starting at 6 and ending when the last hand has been played or we are "out of clothes." Those who were there last night will get the allusion. If you weren't, ask someone who was. Saturday, June 9th, is the Walpole Day 5K and we are running, walking, finishing. It is never too early to start training. Get out there and enjoy the beautiful weather.

We continue to have our twice monthly traditional support groups as well as Jane's noon-time and evening Back on Track classes.

It is NEVER too late to lose or to choose the banded life.

Wishing you much happiness and success and looking forward to seeing you soon.
