“If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading.”  Lao Tzu, wisest of Taoist philosophers

I am often asked by patients if they should change course and typically they are referring to their surgery.  Should they convert from a Lap-Band to a Sleeve or Bypass, or from a Sleeve to a Bypass?   I even occasionally field inquiries from folks wanting to know if they can have a Lap-Band after their Sleeve or Bypass.  Now that Balloon is becoming more...

A Recipe for Successful Dining Out

“Let’s go out to dinner!” The siren song of temptation resonates for us all at one time or another.  Restaurants hold so much allure; their appeal is endless. Eating out means no cooking and no clean up. Restaurant dining is an adventure and a fun activity with family and friends. It’s social. It’s relaxing. It is a chance to try new dishes and interesting foods. Restaurants even hold some cache – we like to say we tried the newest “...

I recently observed the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippor, a day of atonement. This day, one of the holiest of the Jewish calendar, is a fast day dedicated to asking for forgiveness and thinking about how to become a better person. The Hebrew word for repentance is “teshuvah” and it literally means “return.”

This concept of repentance is meaningful – the idea being that when we have somehow lost our way in life, and travelled off the path we were meant to be on, in order to repent...

Updated Vitamin & Mineral Recommendations:

I promised my next blog would be an update on the nutrition guidelines after receiving my certificate in adult weight training through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.  I did cover much of this information in the nutrition class I offered through our office.  We had a great turnout and I hope you were able to make it.  Thank you all for all the positive feedback!

The recommendation for vitamins is to take a complete...

My Summer Secret….

Time to share with you a little hobby I picked up this summer.  You probably wouldn’t guess I’d be doing it, but in fact a lot of people I know do.  It’s not really something I ever thought I would be into and yet I ended up REALLY liking it.  Who woulda’ thought.…

I am a sea glass hunter.

It started out innocently enough.  Jordana and I walked the beach. Good exercise. Good conversation. Cool sea breezes. Over time, our walks...

Growing up, I spent my summers at overnight camp in New Hampshire. I loved pretty much everything about camp – playing softball, crazy pranks in the bunk, the green “bug juice,” and the “socials” where the last song of the night was always Stairway to Heaven (still one of my favorites, even after all these years.)  I even loved swimming lessons in the pond, murky as it was, with an occasional turtle swimming by. But there was one part of my swimming lessons that I always hated: treading...
